Hey, it's been a while!

A friend of mine mentioned the other day that one function which seems less supported in DW comments than it was in Livejournal is Rich Text commenting. I'd never really used it myself, but I get that making the switch to Dreamwidth might be a problem there for people who are more used to Livejournal in that sense. Also, there are a few html commands in Dreamwidth that are different from those in Livejournal, and I'll cover that too.

As such, the basic point to this tutorial is to provide a quick and dirty guide to HTML for Dreamwidth purposes that should cover most everything you need to do normally. Nothing too fancy here, just straightforward stuff.

If anyone's got questions, just leave a comment! I know I didn't go into very much, and a lot of this should be fairly common knowledge already, but it might not be for everyone.

Also, if you're interested in any of my other tutorials, I've got a master list here! So far, I've covered changing the default site style, getting into roleplaying, marking 'new' comments in a post, using LJ juggler or LJ login for managing multiple accounts, as well as getting and claiming your OpenID and uploading icons onto it.

(Quick and unrelated note! For people who are using Firefox or Chrome, check SpeedyFox out. It's meant to improve the speed and functionality of your browser. It seems to work okay for me- I haven't noticed a drastic improvement, but it doesn't seem slower or anything, and other people who use it have reported really good boosts in performance, so it might be worth a try.)

[ how to openid ]

So, I should probably have done this one a little earlier, but here's a quick guide to OpenID for people coming over from Livejournal. I'll be covering just the basis; i.e. how to log in, how to upload icons, and how to claim your OpenID posts and comments if you get a Dreamwidth account (and for those of you who've imported your entries over from LJ, this might be something you want to consider, especially if the long OpenID is messing with your layouts).

[ using lj juggler / lj login ]

I'm sure it's pretty obvious by now that this is a sock journal! (If the username being 'sockymcsockerson' didn't give it away, I'm really not sure what else would.) The thing is, since it's not my main account, I end up logging in and out of various journals on a fairly regular basis. This used to be pretty tiring, and sometimes I'd mix up my journals and passwords. I haven't had to deal with this issue for a while, though, which brings us to today's short guide to managing multiple journals. This'll be a quick one, since it's mostly 3rd party apps and extentions; to wit, LJ Account Juggler for Chrome and LJ Login for Firefox! Which, despite their names, actually work totally well with Dreamwidth, Insanejournal, Inksome and other sites.

[ the 'new' comment script ]

Hello!

I don't know about you, but one of the few changes I actually did like in LJ was the handy 'new' comment things that popped up when you revisted a page. Fortunately, there is a way to implement them in DW and make them work in the same way. The steps I'm going to detail have been tried and tested in both Firefox and Chrome, and should work without much problems.
